Debate - International influence on free expression in Turkey

Does pressure from the international community improve or threaten freedom of expression in Turkey? This question is key in the debate that Amnesty International and the Turkije Instituut will organize on 27 May in Amsterdam.

One year after the crackdown on the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul, the prospects of improvements in Turkey's human rights record are bleak. How can we contribute to the protection of human rights in Turkey? How can international pressure ever be effective when the Turkish leadership successfully uses trump cards such as 'foreign conspiracy'? The evening programme will includes national and international speakers who will share their thoughts on these questions.

The event takes place on Tuesday 27 May in Podium Mozaïek, Amsterdam from  20:00 to 21:30. For more information click here.

Dutch singers at Ankara Jazz Festival

In the next two months the 17th Ankara Jazz Festival will take place. This year, the Cameroon-Dutch Ntjam Rosie and Turkish-Dutch Karsu Donmez will be performing. The Festival started in 1996 as the Middle East Technical University (METU) Ankara Jazz Festival. As it continued, it changed its name to the Ankara Jazz Festival and spread out on to other universities. It is now one of the biggest festivals of Ankara with over 10,000 attendees.

Tiesto - Istanbul BlackBox

Tiesto will be performing in the  Black Box İstanbul on 6 June. Black Box Istanbul is determined to become one of the most active and most comprehensive performance centres in İstanbul and Turkey. It will be opening its gates to the music lovers this summer with Pozitif Live’s performance series starting off with a driving performance by the legendary DJ and producer Tiesto. This night promises to be a bewildering experience of electronic music! For more information click here.

Red Tulip Turkish Film Festival
