International Istanbul Theater Festival
The International Istanbul Theater Festival, a biennial since 2001, was first held in 1989.
The International Istanbul Theater Festival presents the finest examples of Turkish theater as well as internationally acclaimed theater companies and dance groups. Carefully selected companies and artists who participate in the Festival stimulate the world theater scene with their impressive and, at times, radical creations. Whether modern or post-modern, various impressive forms of contemporary theater come within the scope of the International Istanbul Theater Festival.
The extraordinary versatility of the contemporary theater scene is reflected in the Theater Festival and creates a great impact on young audiences. Seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibitions constitute other forms of dialogue between the public and the visiting artists.
In recent years, the International Istanbul Theater Festival has produced experimental works in collaboration with Turkish companies and international festivals. The Festival is planning to take a further step and invite world renowned directors to Istanbul to produce works on a particular theme with Turkish artists and theaters. The encounter between the visiting directors and Turkish artists will strengthen the links between the various cultures and encourage the opening of new paths in the intercultural theater scene.
